Chiyuki Okamura

A native of Kochi, Japan, soprano Chiyuki Okamura studied at Bremen Academy of Arts. Among her teachers are  Joji Obara, Knut Schoch, Harry van der Kamp, Clemens Löschmann, Peter Kooij and Gemma Bertagnolli. She also participated in masterclasses with Helmut Kretschmar, Norman Shetler and Christoph Prégardien. At the 2013 International Competitition for Early Music in Yamanashi, Japan, Chiyuki Okamura was awarded Second Prize. Early music and historical performance practice are a special focus in Chiyuki Okamura´s work. A member of Collegium Vocale Gent since 2011, she has performed with the ensemble in concert tours around the world and in several recordings. As a soloist, Chiyuki Okamura has performed Mendelssohn´s Elias with Orchestra des Champs-Elysées and Philippe Herreweghe; Handel´s Alexanderfest with the Schleswig Holstein Festival Orchestra, and Fauré´s Requiem with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Rolf Beck. Both works were published on the Haenssler label. With the Ensemble Echo du Danube, she has recorded Kapsperger´s Christmas Oratorio I pastori di Bettelemme on the label Accent. Chiyuki Okamura has performed with Vocalensemble Stuttgart, NDR Chor, Rias Kammerchor Berlin, Balthasar-Neumann Chor (Freiburg) and Bach Collegium Japan. She has worked with conductors such as Philippe Herreweghe, Sir Roger Norrington, Christopher Hogwood, René Jacobs, Thomas Hengelbrock, Ivor Bolton, Masaaki Suzuki, Jonathan Nott and Herbert Blomstedt.
